Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has given coaches it has appointed to take charge of the Malawi Queens and Under-21 national team 10 days to confirm their appointments.

It has now transpired that NAM has made some changes to its initial decision and has offered the position of Queens head coach to Mary Waya while Peace Chawinga-Kalua has been appointed her deputy. Another Queens legend is the head coach for Under-21 while Samuel Kanyenda is her deputy.

NAM general secretary Carol Bapu confirmed delivering the appointment letters on Thursday, but could neither confirm nor deny the revised set-up.

“Yes, we submitted the letters of appointment on Thursday and we are waiting for their respective responses. We have given them 10 days to confirm and once the process is through, we will let you know,” said Bapu.

She also said the letters are complete with job descriptions.

Waya yesterday said she was yet to get her letter, but Chawinga confirmed receiving hers on Friday.

“I cannot say much, for details you should speak to NAM, but I can confirm that I am in receipt of the appointment letter,” said Chawinga-Kalua.

The change in the set-up comes after the Malawi National Council of Sports wondered why NAM wanted to separate Waya and Chawinga-Kalua by assigning them the senior and junior national teams.
