When one door closes, they say, another one opens.  That saying bore testimony yesterday when Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) secured a record smashing K600 million sponsorship from United Kingdom-based Rach Family Trust.

The five-year deal signing in Lilongwe comes after Airtel Malawi decided against renewing it’s partnership with the netball body at the expiry of a three-year K360 million contract recently.

Was inspired by Queens’ performance: Rach

Rach Family Trust chairperson Ravi Rach said he was inspired by the Malawi national team’s performance during international tournaments.

“We are so impressed with the Queens hence our sponsorship.  We hope that the team will reach number one on the world rankings,” he said.

Rach said the funds will, among other netball developments, be used for the team’s transportation,  accommodation and its other expenses.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda said the sponsorship will help the team attain great achievements.

“The team has been doing well despite the financial problems we have been facing. Now we expect the team to do extremely well,” he said.

Rach Family Trust has since given NAM K5 million which is not part of the deal.

According to Rach and Chinunda more details about the deal will be unveiled during the launch ceremony next month.n
