NAM set to resolve Tiga’s saga Friday

The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has said it will, by Friday, give a verdict on Bingu Tigresses’ appeal on their suspension by the Blantyre and District Netball League (BDNL).

Tigresses were suspended by the league for the rest of the season for boycotting finals of the Rainbow Paints Top Six Series against Escom Sisters last month. They boycotted because their two key players were in camp with the Malawi Under-20 national team preparing for the Zone VI trip to Zambia.

The team then appealed to the Southern Region Netball Committee (SRNL) which reduced the punishment to two games, but Tigresses still appealed to NAM against the reduced punishment.

NAM president Rosy Chinunda on Wednesday said they have been consulting at board level and will come up with the final verdict at least by Friday.

“We are scrutinising the matter to ensure that we come up with a proper decision for the good of the game. This may have an impact on the league’s duration as it was supposed to end on February 2,” Chinunda told Radio 2 FM Wednesday morning.

In an earlier interview, Tigresses official Peace Chawinga-Kalua said they were not happy with the SRNL ruling because the verdict indicated that the team did not break any rule, but they were still punished.

Tigresses have 10 league games to play and are on sixth position with 33 points from 12 games.

Titleholders Escom Sisters have 48 points from 16 games with MTL Queens on third position with 42 points from the same number of games.
