NAM to justify need for national coach

The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has asked Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) to justify their request for a permanent national coach.

Sports Council executive secretary George Jana confirmed that NAM has been asked to justify why they would need a permanent coach.

“Basically, the reason we have asked them to provide justification is because we are looking at the level of activity of netball whereby they have one or two tournaments in a year.

“So, we want an explanation on what they want the coach to be doing apart from the core duties of coaching the national team,” said Jana.

He also said it is not just a matter of having a permanent coach.

“It is not like just because a certain association has a permanent coach, then they should also have one, there has to be justification.”

NAM president Rosy Chinunda said they were in the process of coming up with a detailed report on the need for a permanent coach.

“But we are optimistic that our request will pass because if that was not the case, then there was no need for Sports Council to ask us to submit a report,” said Chinunda.

Currently, the caretaker coach for the Queens is veteran tactician Griffin ‘Zagallo’ Saenda who took over from Edith Kaliati.

NAM has had no permanent national coach since the 1990s.
