Namiwawa, Maggie Chombo clash in BT U-20 Presidential final

Namiwawa FC and Maggie Chombo Academy will clash Blantyre District Under-20 Presidential Football Cup Championship final at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe on Saturday .

“We expect a very exciting final because the teams have been displaying great football. I tell you, it is going to be a must-watch clash,” said Blantyre District Youth Football Association general secretary Joseph Semu.

On his part, Namiwawa coach Sylas Liwindo said they are more than ready to oust their opponents and make the national finals grade.

“We are not trying to underrate Maggie Chombo Academy, but I must say my team is enjoying excellent form and I can confidently say the national finals slot belongs to us,” he said.

But the Academy’s coach Maggie Chombo-Sadiki, whose team currently hold the FMB Under-20 Cup, said: “Action will speak for us on the pitch.”

In the semi-final

Namiwawa thrashed Yizo-yizo Warriors 5-2 in the semif-final  while Maggie Chombo Academy saw off Ndirande Stars 2-0.

Namiwawa made it through Fransisco Madinga’s four goals and Precious Sambani’s strike while Yizo-yizo earned their consolation goals through Arthur Moffat and Chancy Kachomoza.

Madinga, who has scored nine goals in the last two games, is currently the top goalscorer at district level with 10 goals.

Maggie Chombo Academy’s goals came from Riaz Mdala and Chikondi Mbeta.

Apart from qualifying for the national finals, the Under-20 district champions will also take home K100 000 (about $156). Runners-up will receive K50 000 (about $78). n
