Nanjati, JBF win Copa Division final

Nanjati CDSS are Central West Education Division (Cwed) Copa Coca-Cola champions after beating Minga CDSS 7-6 through penalty shoot-out.

The match which was played at Lilongwe Technical College on Sunday had to be decided by penalties after the two teams had tied 3-3 in regulation time.

For Nanjati to reach the finals, they beat Chileka 2-0 in the semi- finals whereas Minga beat Mchinji Secondary School 1-0.

In the third place play- offs, Chileka finished third after beating Mchinji 2-1.

In the South West Division (Swed), on Saturday, Joyce Banda Foundation thrashed Phokera CDSS 5-0 to win their second major cup after the Airtel Rising Star triumph in May.

In the Shire Highlands Education Division (Shed) Mpasa are the champions after seeing off Robert Private School 3-2 in a closely contested match.

Mahasuwa CDSS beat Mayamiko Private School 1-0 to finish third.

In the Central East Education Division (Ceed), Parachute Battalion are the champs after beating Madise 3-0. Kadifura CDSS outsmarted Mafco 1-0 to finish third.

Balaka Secondary School are this year’s champs in the South East Education Division (Seed) when they beat Chingale CDSS 2-0 in the finals on Saturday.

Likangala finished third with a 2-0 win over Monkey Bay Secondary School.

In the North Education Division (Ned), Chibavi CDSS from Mzuzu beat Chaminade Secondary School from Karonga 2-1 in the finals played at Katoto Secondary School.

Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa), described the divisional finals as successfully organised and competitive on the pitch.

“The tournament went well in all the divisions and we have not received any case of violence. We thank Carlsberg Malawi for the sponsorship. Football is improving at secondary school level because of this sponsorship,” said Massa general secretary Blackson Malamula

The winning teams received K50 000 (about $125) each whereas runners-up got K40 000 (about $100) each. Third-placed teams went away with K30 000 (about $75) each.
