Light of Youth Creative Organisation (Lyco) has said the Southern Region will from next year start benefiting from its National Schools Youth Drama Festival (Nasfest).

Nasfest executive director James Kitchen confirmed this on Tuesday.

“Nasfest has benefited many youths in the country. It is evident that the festival is grooming a lot of talent.

“Our aim is to make the festival so big that it benefits everyone interested in theatre,” he said, adding that they are making progress in their quest to take the festival to the South.

Nasfest started in 2009 and, last year, it was taken to the Northern Region.

Apart from the festivals, Lyco holds theatre clinics where it drills the youth in acting and playwriting.

According to Kitchen, over 80 youths from the Central Region have benefited from the clinics.

He said the figure is expected to increase in the next few months.

Meanwhile, Lyco has announced that it will expand its recognition of best actors if other partners come in to support the initiative.
