National Bank of Malawi (NBM) yesterday committed K500 000 to Nation Publications Limited in support of the Mothers’ Day Fun Run initiative that will take place in Mzimba on October 8.
The bank also donated K700 000 towards Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) conference to be held in Mangochi from October 27 to 29.
Receiving the cheque, NPL Weekend Nation editor Steven Nhlane thanked the bank for continuing to partner NPL’s Mothers’ Day Fun Run initiative, saying this was not the first time for the bank to support the initiative.
“The donation will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of mothers and their unborn children,” he said.
Nhlane said apart from Mzimba District Hospital, other health facilities that will benefit from the initiative are Jenda, Euthini, Luwerezi, Mbalachanda, Madede, Chikangawa, Manyamula, Kamteteka and Chikangawa.
“Since the introduction of the initiative, we have been to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital [QECH], Bwaila, Mzuzu, Zomba, Dedza, Karonga, Thyolo, Rumphi, Mangochi and Mchinji and this time we will be in Mzimba,” said Nhlane.
NBM communications and commercial marketing manager Ella Kabambe commended NPL for the initiative which is saving lives of mothers and their unborn children.
“We call upon the corporate world and individuals to support the initiative because it is for the good of the mothers and protection of unborn babies. This should not be left to the corporate world only, but individuals also have to take part,” said Kabambe. n
