Kachiguma: Second phase will be more intensive

Malawi national golf team is next week set to engage an extra gear in preparation for the Zone VI Games in Cape Town, South Africa, from April 13 to 17.

National coach Christ Kachiguma yesterday said the preparations will switch to Blantyre from Lilongwe and the squad has been trimmed to 12, from the initial 18.

“Only 12 players, who were outstanding during the first training camp held in Lilongwe, have been picked. For now, confirmation on seven players has been done, but as for the remaining five, I am still waiting for the final feedback from fellow technical officials. However, in essence, I have the list of all the 12 players,” said Kachiguma.

He said the seven that have so far made it are Texon Banda, Adam Sailesi, Victor Kachepatsonga, Kondwani Mphula, Charles Kambalame, Paul Chidale and Gift Landisi.

“The focus during the initial camp was on individual skills, rules and etiquette. The second will be more intensive as it will cover the crucial technical and tactical aspects.

“But based on the first phase, I believe we are on track and by the time we wind up the preparations, the team should be in shape,” said Kachiguma, who is being assisted by team manager Clement Chilingulo.
