Nazombe family releases his album

It is a year since Malawian poet and radio presenter O’Brien Nazombe died, but his legacy lives on. His family compiled 25 poems he recorded before his death in Dendekera CD to be launched at the Warehouse in Malawi’s commercial city, Blantyre, next month.

“He recorded all the poems before he fell sick. On his sickbed, he spoke a lot about releasing this album. Unfortunately, he passed on without realising his dreams.

As a family, we thought of honouring his wish,” said his brother Mollen.
Apart from a CD auction to raise funds for the multitalented artist’s tombstone, the launch on August 5 will comprise music performances by Edgar ndi Davis as well as recitals by Nyamalikiti Nthiwatiwa, Joseph Madzedze, Benedicto Wokomaatani Malunga and other poets Aubrey recorded.

Aubrey is credited with modernising vernacular poetry through his studio and Chitsinde cha Ndakaulo quarterly festival and Patsinde programme on Joy FM.

Some of the titles on the posthumous release include Tsiku Lanu Lidzafika, Chifukwa N’chimodzi and Nja Nyonga Wenzulo.
