Cricket_xerographix-actionSix teams are now assured slots in the quarter-finals of the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) 25 Overs Southern Region Cricket League (SRCL) Tournament following results of last Sunday’s matches.

Mpingwe Sports Club (MSC) Blue, MSC White and Indian Sports Club (ISC) have made it from Group B while MSC Orange, MSC Silver and MSC Purple qualified for the crucial stage from Group B. There were 12 contesting teams that were divided into two groups.

However, MSC Gold and MSC Grey should try their best to win their remaining two matches to earn the last quarter-final slot in Group A whereas MSC Veterans just need to win at least one of their outstanding two encounters to deflate Cricket Academy’s (CA1) chances of getting into the crucial stage.

But already, CA1’s director Vivek Ganesan has ruled out his team’s possibility of making it into the last eight saying he has a youthful side which is still learning basics of the sport.

“Our participation in this contest is not necessarily to win matches but to help the youth gain confidence and courage in the playing field. I expect them to start doing well in next year’s competitions,” said Ganesan, whose side lost to MSC Purple by eight runs after making 137 runs.

According to SRCL chairperson Shiraz Zaveri, the quarter-finals list would be complete after this weekend’s encounters.
