National Bank of Malawi on Friday donated assorted items worth K1 million (about $1 496) to Rumphi District Hospital.
In an interview, the bank’s Mzuzu service centre manager Brian Chirwa said they opted for Rumphi as it has been some time since they cheered the sick at the hospital.
“We were here seven years ago,” he said.
“[The year] 2015 has been generally slow because of the weak economy. This had an effect on the bank,” Chirwa said.
One of the beneficiaries, Memory Mwandira, hailed the bank for the gift which included a 20- litre plastic bucket, salt, rice and soap.
Mwandira said the food items will go along way in complimenting her dietary needs.
The hospital’s kitchen was once closed in October last year because there were no food supplies due to inadequate funding. n
