Nchalo suspend coach Manda

TNM Super League table anchors Nchalo United have suspended their head coach Charles Manda for two weeks.

While confirming the suspension, the top-flight league returnees’ chairperson Peter Chiipanthenga was elusive on the matter, saying: “The reports are not completely false, but I can’t comment further at the moment as we are in the process of investigating some issues.”

Manda: When a team does well, credit
goes to the players

On whether it was related to team performance or discipline, the Nchalo United boss said: “Discipline affects performance sometimes you can’t really draw a line between the two. But we can only be certain about some of these issues after a thorough probe, probably why I am not comfortable talking about it now.”

On his part, Manda said he was communicated to about the suspension on Tuesday.

“Upon our return from Dwangwa [Nkhotakota] where we lost two games to Mafco FC [2-1] and Dwangwa United [4-0],  I was called by the team’s management who expressed disappointment with the team’s performance,” he said.

Asked for his reaction, the former Escom United and Be Forward Wanderers mentor said: “I have accepted it and will wait for the decision on the way forward after the two weeks.  When the team does well, credit goes to the players and when it loses, fingers are pointed at the coach.

“It is just unfortunate that they do not reflect on the type of squad we have, which to me is ordinary having come from the lower league. We cannot effectively compete with other teams such as Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers.”

Nchalo are tied on seven points with Masters Security but are separated by goal difference. They have played seven games, drawn one and lost two (including the three points docked from their win against Mzuzu University FC following their involvement in match fixing when they faced Chitipa United last season in a Carlsberg Cup match. n
