Nchalo United thrash Zomba United in SRFL

Nchalo United gave Zomba United a resounding 4-0 defeat in the Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) Premier Division match played in sweltering heat at Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo on Saturday.

The defeat increases Zomba’s poor run as the team still finds it hard to cope with life in the second-tier league. They have so far lost five games, drawn four and won once.

Hero of the day was Nchalo striker Davie Chadewa who scored a hat-trick. He pounced on a fumble by the visitors’ goalkeeper William Phiri to open the score sheet with a simple header barely six minutes into the game.

A few minutes later, Fakinala James made it 2-0 when he capitalised on an ill-timed offside trap by Zomba United defenders Bob Ziligone, Edson Mapira and Yusuf Chidule.

After the second goal, the visitors looked disorganised as they needlessly gave away the ball. Nchalo led 2-0 at half-time.

Nchalo continued from where they stopped and their efforts paid off in the 65th minute. A brilliant overlapping run on the right by Nchalo defender Yonamu Mnelemba resulted in Chadewa scoring the third from close range before rounding it up with a fine finish three minutes from time, leaving the visitors downcast.

Nchalo United technical director Jones Napolo hailed his charges for putting up a spirited performance whereas Zomba United general secretary Wanangwa Jere blamed the loss on some of his players’ lack of maturity as evidenced by what he described as “schoolboy errors”, which cost them the game.
