Ndawa downplays derby factor

Silver Strikers coach Frank Ndawa has downplayed the derby factor of Saturday’s TNM Super League second-round meeting against Civo United.

“All I know is that this week, we are playing in the TNM Super League and every Super League team deserves respect,” Ndawa said yesterday. His charges seek to build on two consecutive wins.

Nation Online asked Ndawa how he was looking forward to his first Lilongwe derby.

The Bankers, who are the league’s title holders, may rise further if they beat Civo who lie sixth on 35 points. Silver are second on 40 points, two behind leaders Blantyre United.

For Civo caretaker coach, Thom Mkolongo, this game could provide a platform to prove something to his former employers, Silver.

“I know Silver are in fine form. We also have to try and get in the right frame of mind so that the best team on the day should just win,” said Mkolongo.

He goes into this match with three wins and a loss since replacing veteran Alex Masanjala in a stand-in role early this month.

Civo have since received a boost with the return from injury of Nelson Kangunje, Pilira Makupe whereas John Lanjesi remains a doubt.
