Needy student appeals for fees

Twenty-year-old Isaac Anderson from Nkhoma in Lilongwe is a first year bachelor of science in mathematical sciences education student at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of University of Malawi (Unima). However, Anderson’s application for a loan to cover tuition, stationery and upkeep allowance has been rejected by the Higher Education Students Loan Board and he faces withdrawal from the college. His post-primary education at Mitundu Secondary School was funded by Central West Education Division as his parents, who are both peasant farmers, could not afford, he said.
