Needy student appeals for fees
Twenty-year-old Isaac Anderson from Nkhoma in Lilongwe is a first year bachelor of science in mathematical sciences education student at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of University of Malawi (Unima). However, Anderson’s application for a loan to cover tuition, stationery and upkeep allowance has been rejected by the Higher Education Students Loan Board and he faces withdrawal from the college. His post-primary education at Mitundu Secondary School was funded by Central West Education Division as his parents, who are both peasant farmers, could not afford, he said. Well-wishers willing to help Anderson pursue his tertiary education may get in touch with The Nation or the Polytechnic management.
So the loan board has failed us again! Sadly, it is the president who has failed.
