ActionAid on Tuesday donated relief items to 52 households in Kaingirira Village, Traditional Authority ( T/A) Dambe in Neno affected by a fire which burnt down 104 houses a few weeks ago.

ActionAid programme coordinator Landani Masingati said they donated the items because Neno is part of their catchment area.

He said the fire also affected their work because some of the people they were working with were now destitute.

Said Masingati: “We had to show our solidarity because we have been working with them since 2007 as such their suffering is also our suffering.”

He said as Actionaid, they could not replace everything the families lost, but just provide them with items to reconstruct their houses.

Responding to the gesture, village head (VH) Kaingirira commended ActionAid for supporting her people.

She said: “I can now smile because my subjects have been assisted.”

Kaingirira also urged her people to stop starting bush fires which are suspected to have caused the accident.

The items included blankets, buckets, plates, cups and plastic sheets for roofing. n
