New Dawn challenges Chazama on international title bout

New Dawn Boxing Promotion (NDBP) has urged newly crowned national lightweight champion Salimu Chazama to win in Namibia on October 3, to have a shot at an international title.

Chazama beat fellow Malawi Defence Force (MDF) pugilist Chrispin Moliati in a controversial national title bout at Lilongwe Community Centre ground two weeks ago and his imminent trip to Namibia alongside Moliati and Ernest Msoliza is a token of appreciation for his recent success, according to NDBP director Mike Chimaliza.

Nevertheless, Chimaliza said Moliati and Msoliza have been considered for the non-title bouts in Namibia due to their hardworking spirit and resilience in their recent bouts.

“Chazama is a good boxer, but he needs to show seriousness on his preparations for an international title bout against a Tanzanian in the next few months by winning his forthcoming fight in Namibia,” Chimaliza said.

On his part, Chazama, whose professional boxing record is 17 wins, a draw and a loss, said he will do his best to use the Namibia trip as his springboard to success.

“The good thing is that in Namibia I will fight in my favourite lightweight category where I still have a clean record. I will not mess up this opportunity because it is my only chance to rise on the boxing ladder,” he said.
