New MRA boss reports for duty

Newly-appointed Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Commissioner General John Biziwick reported for work at Msonkho House in Blantyre on Monday, according to a write-up published on MRA website www.mra.mw.

President Lazarus Chakwera last week appointed Biziwick and his two deputies Henry Ngutwa responsible for revenue and Agness Katsonga-Phiri responsible for administration.

During his first day of work, Biziwick was welcomed by the outgoing office holder Tom Gray Malata and thereafter the two held a handover meeting.

Prior to his appointment, Biziwick was working at Malawi Stock Exchange-listed Press Corporation plc as group operations executive, a position he held since October 2015.

This is the second time Biziwick will be heading the revenue collection body as he served in a similar position from June 2012 to July 2014.

Prior to that, he worked as NBS Bank plc chief executive officer from 2002 to 2012 and as the MSE-listed bank’s deputy general manager (operations) from 2000 to 2002.

Biziwick began his professional career at the Reserve Bank of Malawi in 1980 as an economist.
