A new one-hour programme has launched on Ufulu FM Radio with an aim of exposing aspects of musicians’ lives that people do not know.

The programme, called ‘Moyo Wawo’, started airing on Tuesday and will be aired every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm.

The host Gospel Kanyama, told The Nation that the programme is unique.

“There are several radio programmes in the country that involve interviews with artists, but they do not go deeper in terms of revealing the hidden side of artists’ lives. The Moyo Wawo programme aims at telling the unknown information about artists.

“For example, our audience will know funny, interesting and sad incidences that particular artists have gone through in their lives,” he said.

In last Tuesday’s maiden programme, Kanyama engaged 34-year-old gospel musician Thoko Katimba, who narrated a part of his life which most of his fans were not aware of.

“I struggled to do my secondary education following the death of my father. I was selected to Kasungu Secondary School, but my mother failed to raise school fees. The following year, Kasungu CCAP contributed money for my school fees and I started Form One at Boma Community Day Secondary School. I still feel sad that I failed to go to boarding school because of poverty,” said Katimba.

The first born in a family of five, Katimba said the same Kasungu CCAP in later years contributed money for him to travel from Kasungu to Blantyre to record his first single Ndalipeza Banja in 2001.

“When I was starting my music career I had no money. No wonder many people who knew me get surprised today that I am now financially stable,” he said, adding: “After recording the single I slept at Wenela Bus Depot waiting for the following day’s bus to travel back to Kasungu.”

He also said after the death of his wife Maggie, he is dating Irene Mola.

“I loved my late wife Maggie, but God loved her more. Now I am in love with Irene Mola,” said the musician.

Kanyama assured listeners that as a host, he will ensure that the programme adheres to its agenda of bringing out unknown information about artists.
