A new venue in Nkhata Bay has revived live music shows which were rare in the lakeshore district.

Mahecha Lodge and Pub was launched on June 1, 2019 with a performance by Lucius Banda and the Zembani Band.

In an interview, Mahecha proprietor Mahecha Chawinga said residents and those living around the district should expect at least one live music show every month.

“We are currently discussing with Diamond Platnumz and General Kanene to perform live in Nkhata Bay. We will communicate dates for these shows later when we make final agreements,” he said.

The venue is situated at Nkhata Bay Boma, along the shores of Lake Malawi.

Chawinga said he wants to take advantage of the district’s tourism potential by giving tourists and visitors an alternative source of entertainment.

“We receive a lot of visitors in Nkhata Bay, but rarely do you hear of live music events taking place here. We want to keep entertaining such visitors as they enjoy the fresh waters of Lake Malawi.

That is why we have constructed this venue on the shores of the lake. It is also situated at the Boma so that patrons do not have challenges in accessing our shows,” he said.

The coming in of the venue has excited event organisers as they could not hold music shows due to lack of appropriate venues.

Sydney Simumba said the venue is spacious, convenient and well secured.

“We used to do shows at Kunyanja School Hall, but we could only do that during school holidays to avoid inconveniencing learners.

Now, we can do shows anytime of the year,” he said. n
