After steering his South African side Platinum Stars to two trophies this season, Flames midfield star Robert ‘Baggio’ Ng’ambi on Sunday wedded his sweetheart Jane Mitochi at Bethsida Pool Church in Blantyre.
There were scenes so lovely. The congregation ululated as the founder and president of Chrissie International Ministries, Apostle Chrissie Chidzaro, declared Robert and Jane, man and wife.
In a brief interview after the officiation, Ng’ambi who was visibly floating on air said: “This is a very special day for me, I have been looking forward to this day.”
He looked princely in black suit, white necktie and a matching white waist coat complete with a pair of pointed black shoes while his better-half also looked gorgeous in a long white gown.
So excited was the groom that when the church choir sang Yehova m’busa wangadi he fell prey to emotions and danced freely.
Ng’ambi paid special tribute to his family, friends, fellow footballers and soccer officials, in particular Billy Tewesa and Robin Alufandika saying: “Had it not been for you, I would not be standing here today.”
Pastor Goster Kumbulani, who gave a touching sermon, said the day marked a new chapter in the couple’s lives.
“Robert, you have kept your faith in Christ while others have fallen by the way side. I urge both of you to continue looking up to Christ for He has the answer to everything,” said Kumbulani.
He added: “Robert, although you are a soccer star, you have not forsaken your master and that is why He continues to bless you.”
Ng’ambi’s best man was fellow international footballer Chiukepo ‘Yakubu’ Msowoya while others such as Fischer Kondowe and Mapopa Musukwa were part of the bridal party.
The couple waved at relations and well-wishers as they left the church in a posh Cadillac.
Platinum Stars top officials namely chairperson Ratanang Nke and manager Senzo Mazingiza attended the officiation.
The reception took place later in the evening at Comesa Hall.
