A Christian organisation, Starfish Malawi, has donated eight beds and mattresses to Salima District Health Office (DHO) worth K3 million to enhance the delivery of healthcare services in the district.

In an interview on Friday, the organisation’s country director Emmanuel Uwaezuoke said the donation followed a request from the DHO to support the district’s hospital, especially the Covid-19 Treatment Centre.

“We also ask other well-wishers to support the DHO in this time of Covid-19,” he said.

Salima District Health Office senior nursing officer Yanjanani Mawindo said the donation came at the right time when some of their facilities were in need of beds.

She said: “Some patients were sleeping on the floor.

“Again, the district has opened two new health facilities and the district hospital needs additional beds as referrals will increase.”

Mawindo also asked well-wishers for Covid-19 assorted medical equipment and supplies.

Starfish Malawi also constructed a health facility at Ngolowindo in the district and donated four oxygen concentrators to Salima District Hospital.
