Heart to Heart country representative Suemin Han said trachoma is a big problem in Machinga, hence the commemoration of World Sight Day as one way of sensitising communities on how to care for their eyes by following good hygiene practices.

World Sight Day was commemorated recently at Nsalabani Primary School where Milala, Nsalabani and Likwenu primary schools and community based child care centres received buckets to promote hand washing in their respective schools and centres.

Machinga district health officer (DHO) Charles Mtibo said trachoma is hygiene and sanitation, related, hence the need to campaign for hand washing and other good hygiene practices to deal with all eye infections among Machinga’s population. n
