Principal education officer in the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) Felix Ungapembe has urged communities in Mulanje to support various development projects being implemented in community day secondary schools (CDSSs).

Communities are urged to own school projects such as these by contributing resources

Ungapembe made the plea during a training Creative Centre for Community Mobilisation (Creccom) organised to equip teachers, traditional leaders and mother groups with knowledge on how best they can use few resources to improve the quality of education in CDSSs.

Mulomba CDSS head teacher, Eric Cassim bemoaned lack of funds for a laboratory project the school is undertaking, adding that sometimes they do not receive grants from government.

On his part, Mulanje district Creccom community engagement officer Thomas Chimwaza said development projects should be championed by communities.

“Communities have the responsibility to ensure that their schools are developed,” he said.

Chimwaza said Creccom is implementing a project called Improving Education Quality in CDSSs which would provide grants for selected CDSSs for projects that are already taking shape.
