Makhumba: Preparations are at an advanced stage

The event’s organising committee chairperson Dickson Makhumba said the function will take place on February 20 2016 at Thyolo Community Ground.

Makhumba told journalists in Blantyre on Monday that preparations were at an advanced stage and are progressing well.

He said: “We have arranged a number of activities that include traditional dances such as the famous soopa [tchopa] to be performed by the Lhomwe chiefs, traditional foods and beers among others.”

The celebrations, he said, would start on February 19 at Ngolongoliwa headquarters.

The chairperson said invited guests include all chiefs in Malawi, adding the committee was also extending an invitation to all Malawians to celebrate with them.

Makhumba said Ngolongoliwa is the first senior chief of the Lhomwe tribe. n
