Ng’onamo yet to decide on TD post

Flames caretaker coach Eddington Ng’onamo has said he is undecided about whether he should apply for the position of FAM technical director (TD).

The development comes in the wake of Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) move to engage him as a caretaker coach for the Flames.

Ng’onamo told The Nation two months ago that he would prefer the role of TD other than that of national coach to continue where he stopped with development projects.

“Following the change of events, I am yet to decide on whether I should apply for the TD role because of my interim role as national team coach.

“It is quite a tricky situation because, as at now, I am not sure for how long I will be in charge of the national team as my tenure will be based on performance.

“So, I will have to consult widely before I can make a decision,” said Ng’onamo.

So far, two seasoned tacticians Yasin Osman and Alex Masanjala are known to have applied for the post of TD which fell vacant following the removal of Jack Chamangwana.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda on Monday confirmed that so far five people had applied for the TD position.

“But we will be able to say who these people are after short-listing those that will undergo interviews,” he said.
