Malani Kayuni has taken off the mantle of fear as he faces Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer Wilson Shasha Masamba this afternoon at Limpopo Club.
Ngwenyama Boxing Promotions (NBP), which is sponsoring the fight, is planning to offer Kayuni a national title fight if he defeats experienced Masamba.
“After he (Kayuni) challenged Masamba, we agreed to give him an opportunity to prove himself. If he does manage to beat Masamba, surely we are going to give him a chance at national title fight. It is going to be a very interesting bout considering that Masamba has great experience in the ring,” said promoter Patrick Ngwenyama of NBP.
Kayuni, young brother to Osgood, said he believes promoters will be able to recognise him as a serious boxer if he defeats Masamba.
The two boxers last fought a year ago in Blantyre and Masamba triumphed.
“By challenging Masamba it does not mean I disrespect him. He is a good boxer and has achieved a lot, but I believe now I have acquired the skills and experience to be able to counter him in the ring,” said Kayuni. n
