The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has donated 16 free-play radios to Domasi Prison in Zomba to enhance access to electoral-related information among inmates at this correctional facility.
Speaking when she presented the donation on Saturday, Zomba Nice district civic education officer (DCEO) Albertina Nsongolo said her organisation is committed to providing regular civic and voter education in prisons to enable incarcerated Malawians to make informed decisions ahead of the May 20 Tripartite Elections.

Nsongolo said  Nice has devised many initiatives to reach out to inmates with messages during the whole electoral period.
Among others, she said her office will provide inmates with daily and weekly newspapers, leaflets and brochures carrying information on elections.

“Nice is very committed to ensuring that your right to vote is guaranteed and respected. As such, we’ll do everything that’s within our mandate to help you get information on elections,” she said.
The prisoner prefect, Francis Manyungwa, thanked Nice for the donation, saying it will go a long way in addressing challenges inmates had to access information on elections and other equally important issues.
