National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust is engaging communities in Mchinji in popularising Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) free trade agreement.

Speaking on Friday during meetings with Dambe and Mkanda area development committees (ADC) members, Nice Mchinji district civic education officer Paul Kanyenda said they wanted to raise awareness that Sadc regional integration can enable people from the district to trade with Sadc countries without challenges.

“Officials from Malawi Revenue Authority, the Immigration Department and police will impart knowledge to people on how they can obtain necessary documents to trade with Sadc countries,” he said.

Mkanda Area Development Committee chairperson Macdonald Banda commended Nice for the meeting.

“Most of us just read about Sadc in newspapers, but did not know that we can benefit from the body’s free trade agreement,” he said.

Nice and GIZ-Progress Botswana are engaging local structures and councils in selected border districts on Sadc protocols which Malawi is party to.
