Nice launches post-electoral civic education

The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust on Saturday launched an in-between the polls campaign to sensitise the public to post-electoral responsibilities.

The trust’s board member, Bertha Sefu, said the campaign, which was launched in Blantyre, will also educate citizens on the various roles of ward councillors and members of Parliament (MPs) while at the same time checking if politicians are living up to their campaign promises.

“People must hold their leaders accountable. Besides, they should not relent to get what belongs to them: development,” said Sefu.

Nice executive director Ollen Mwalubunju said the campaign started in July this year and runs up to August next year.

“We are targeting vulnerable groups in society. We want elected leaders to remain accountable to people,” said Mwalubunju.
