Nine nominated for GOtv Netball awards

As the 2015 edition of the GOtv Netball Champions League reaches the climax today at Don Bosco in Lilongwe, nine players have been nominated for four individual awards.

Kukoma Diamonds shooter Alinafe Kamwala, her Civonets counterpart Mary Mvere, Thunder Queens centre Thandi Galeta, Civonets centre Rose Mkanda and Diamonds defender Wezzie Mzembe have been nominated for the first time since the annual competition started two seasons ago.

According to MultiChoice Malawi marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda, the award ceremony will take place during a gala night at Ufulu Gardens after today’s finals.

Kamwala and her Civonets counterpart Mvere have been listed for the Best Shooter award along with Blue Eagles Sisters shooter Joyce Mvula.

The battle for the Best Centre accolade will be among Eagles Sisters’ Takondwa Lwazi, Galeta and Mkanda.

Diamond defenders Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda and Mzembe and Complex Tigresses’ Loreen Ngwira will tussle for the Best Defender award.

Kamwala, Lwazi and Mvula have also been nominated for the Player of the Tournament award.

Defending champions Tigresses were expected to take on Diamonds in the first semi-final yesterday while Blue Eagles Sisters were set to face Thunder Queens in the other last-four encounter. The semi-final victors will meet in the final today. n
