Philmon ‘Nkhakamila’ Banda last Sunday held Tanzanian featherweight boxer Obote Ameme to a draw in a six-round exhibition bout staged at Nyasi Village Hotel located at Songwe Border between Malawi and Tanzania.

According to the organiser of the fight Ndamyo Kalinga, all the three judges ascertained a draw.

The judges were Rascals Mwanza (39-39), Omari Yazidu (37-37) and Samson Msukwa (38-38) while the referee was S.S Banda from the Northern Region Boxing Committee.

“It was an entertaining fight that thrilled the fans,” Kalinga said.

Nkhakamila said the result was fair.

“Of course, I felt I had an upper hand, but all the same I cannot complain,” he said.

However, Kalinga said the turnout was not impressive due to poor publicity.

“Not many people came because the bout was not well publicised, but it was the first step in promoting the sport around the border area,” he said.

He also said Nyasi Village Boxing Promotions will soon arrange another fight between Kenneth Chinthenga and one of the two boxers.

“Initially, the idea was that the winner would face Chinthenga, but since it ended in a draw, we will sit down to map the way forward,” he said.
