The project’s programme manager Benson Chiumia said the initiative is aimed at developing district-wide sustainable natural resource management and improving food security and livelihoods for the most disadvantaged households in the district.

Said Chiumia: “We have trained them in tree nursery establishment and management as well as agroforestry to facilitate tree planting and various afforestation programmes.”

The multi-million donor aided project, which started this year, will run for four years, and is expected to benefit all groupings and willing individuals, taking part in natural resource conservation as the district is currently losing thousands of hectares of its forest cover annually.
