Nkhoma suspends two pastors over ‘pastoral letter’
Nkhoma Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) has suspended two of its pastors, a Rev. HPH Zulu and Sande Mwale, for allegedly co-authoring a pastoral letter read out at a radio station.
In a letter dated June 18 2014 which The Nation has seen and was also read yesterday in all the synod’s churches, Nkhoma Synod said the two pastors have been suspended with immediate effect.
According to the suspension letter, signed by synod moderator the Reverend Chatha Msangaambe and synod clerk Brian Kamwendo, the two pastors have been suspended for causing confusion in the church and allegedly forging fellow pastors’ signatures.
Reads the letter in part: “The synod has suspended the two pastors with effect from the 18th of June until 2015 when the synod leadership shall meet and discuss the matter.
“The synod is urging its pastors and all its faithful to use proper channels if they want to petition the church.”
The disputed pastoral letter asked the current leadership to step down for allegedly failing to instil discipline in fellow pastors and the flock. The letter said the synod leadership “felt” they are more educated than others.
The letter also allegedly accused the leadership of making unilateral decisions.
The disputed letter also cited the K62 million fraud in which the church was involved with a United States Agency for International Development (USaid) water, sanitation and hygiene project as a sign of lack of transparency from the current synod leadership.
