Action for People’s Voice has petitioned Nkhotakota District Council to deliver on the district’s projects.

The group on Monday presented a five-point petition to the council demanding authorities to revamp operations of the bus depot, among others.

In 2017, the council constructed the bus depot with financial assistance from KFW, but bus operators have been ignoring it.

In an interview, the group’s secretary Abdul Assan also wants Nkhotakota Community Radio Board to be dissolved.

“We want to check the operations of the community radio as regards to the prolonged stay of the governance structure, recruitment criteria for employees and source of funding,” he said.

Chamdimba (L) receives the petition from the group

Nkhotakota district commissioner (DC) secretary Charity Chamdimba received the petition on behalf of the council.

Meanwhile, Nkhotakota Community Radio board chairperson Blessings Mkolora has resigned following the concerns.

In a letter dated July 24 2020, Mkolora said he made the decision after the group approached him.

The petition has also  underscored the need to investigate the whereabouts of some vehicles allegedly missing at the council.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has transferred the DC Medson Matchaya to Thyolo in a bid to resolve disagreements between the council and its employees over wage arrears.

Both Matchaya and Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development spokesperson Muhlabase Mughogho  confirmed the development in separate interviews.
