Youth in Nkhotakota have petitioned the district council to remove the district youth officer (DYO) Oscar Mulenga, because they are not happy with his leadership style.

Yesterday, the youth marched to the district council to present their petition demanding the officer’s removal by June 1 2018. They warned that they will forcibly remove him if their demand is not met.

“We are not protesting against him as a person but, we are not happy with his leadership. We tried to engage him but nothing worked. We hope government will look into the matter with urgency.”  said a youth representative Steve Kantande.

Speaking after receiving the petition, head of human resources Geoffrey Mkandawire was surprised with the march, but said his office was already addressing related issues. He pledged to look into the concerns.

But Mulenga dismissed the allegations, describing them as a ploy to tarnish his image. He said he is not an elected member; hence, cannot to be fired by the community.

Mulenga has been Nkhotakota DYO since 2015. n
