Two sections on the Nkhotakota-Salima Road have been cut off. The sections are Thavite and Matenje CDSS which are located a couple of kilometres apart.
Onlookers at the two sites said the incident occurred in the early hours of today (Friday) when the road curved in.
“We heard a loud sound as if something huge has fallen from the sky and when we rushed to the scene, the road had been divided into two parts,” said Michael Kaunda an eyewitness at Thavite.
He said the rains started around 5 pm on Thursday and continued throughout the night causing rivers to swell and flood nearby crop fields and villages.
Meanwhile, traffic is being redirected to alternative routes such as Kasungu via Lilongwe to Salima or Lilongwe via Kasungu to Nkhotakota.
