However it was Nigerian artists who won big at this year’s awards ceremony held on Sunday night at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, won three awards; artiste of the year and song of the year as well as Best West African artiste award.

Tiwa Savage, Ycee and Wande Coal, 2baba, Adesa Cookey and Orezi were also among the winners of the night.

Best female artiste in South Africa went to Thandiswa.

In an interview with The Nation, Tay Grin congratulated Emtee for winning the best male artiste award, saying he deserved it.

Said Tay Grin: “I thank all those that took their time to support me. Winning is great sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time. If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday”.

He added that now he is going back to the drawing board and will work twice as hard.

“It was a huge honour to be nominated in the category and great things are still to come,” he said.n
