Organisers of the Luso TV Clash of Giants Sports Bonanza at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe this weekend have said there will be no complimentary entry tickets during the two-day event in an attempt to maximise revenue.

The bonanza involves Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers, Silver Strikers and Epac FC.

The decision was endorsed by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chairperson of subcommittee responsible for competitions James Mwenda.

Mwenda said since this tournament is the initiative of the clubs, FAM and Sulom will not be entitled to gate collections and officials from the two institutions will be required to pay at the gate.

“But I must put it on record that any competitions organised by FAM and Sulom, we are entitled to a share from the gate collections. We run football in the country. Fifa always get a share from the gate collections when we play an international match. They are entitled to it,” said Mwenda.

Chairperson of the bonanza’s joint organising committee Austin Kasito said even club officials and supporters from the four clubs will also be required to pay at the gate.

According to the organisers, the two-day event targets to raise K25 million (about $65 000).

On Saturday, Epac FC will play Mighty Wanderers at noon. Big Bullets will line up against Silver Strikers at 2.30pm.
