The thin line between experience and inexperience was there for spectators at Kamuzu Stadium to see as Cobbe Barracks welcomed Ndirande Icons into the Premier Division with a 3-2 beating on Sunday.

The scoreline of this K5 million (about $12 500) Peter Mutharika Southern Region Football League (SRFL) meeting is, of course, respectable but this was all due to Dennis Selemani’s own goal; otherwise, it was supposed to be a walk over.

Parading several ex-Super League stars such as goalkeeper Charles Njima, Luke Zairi Muyawa and William Chiwanda, the Zomba-based soldiers were simply dominant.

Muyawa put them ahead while Msamuti Felix Mwenyenkuku provided the insurance goal in the second half before Andrew Malenga delivered the killer punch.

You may think Ndirande just folded their arms and watched. Not really. In right winger Mphatso Zolimba and captain Dave Mpesa, they had exciting gems.

“We were too slow on the [ball] and this is what we need to work on to match Premier Division football,” Mpesa admitted while Muyawa said they were determined to secure Super League promotion.
