No miracle victory against Guinea’

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has warned the Flames not to expect miracle victories in back-to-back 2017 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Guinea.

The leader and founder of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church made the statement after a symbolic presentation of K44 million to the Flames at Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) Mpira House at Chiwembe in Blantyre.

The South Africa-based prophet said he could not predict the results of the two-legged tie that will see the national team playing against Guinea away on March 25 and at home on March 29.

“I am making this donation to show my patriotism to the country. However, I cannot prophesy on the outcome of the (Flames) games. I do that on my pulpit in church. If God speaks to me, I will talk about it in church,” he said.

“As fellow human being, I ask the Flames to work hard and earn their victories.”

Bushiri has in the past made a number of prophecies, including Australia’s victory in 2015 Rugby World Cup.

“Can we also help Australia? This is where people are trying to move and I am seeing Australia winning…I saw something very funny the time we were worshipping. I saw 34, I saw 35, what is this?” Bushiri was quoted as saying in his church by Online Prophetic Ministry in October 2015.

The final match between Australia and Scotland ended 35-34 in Australia’s favour just as he prophesied.

It was thought that such a prophecy could be done for the Flames.

Nevertheless, Flames coach Ernest Mtawali and captain Chiukepo Msowoya said nothing will come easy in their encounters against Guinea and that they will work extra hard to succeed.

“Our matches against Guinea are must-win encounters if we are to remain in contention for Afcon qualification. Our target is to win both matches against Guinea and, realistically, this will be a tall order, but certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.

“We will have to fight every inch of the way to bag maximum points, or at least four points from two matches. Is it possible? Can we do it? Oh yes, we can! Self-belief and commitment are key factors in achieving that. What more we are going there with blessings from a revered ‘man of God’” Mtawali said.

Msowoya said: “We are ready for battle and we will fight tooth and nail to make the 2017 Afcon grade.”

The Flames leave today for Sierra Leone to play an international practice match on Tuesday before proceeding to Guinea for next Friday’s Afcon battle. n
