No rest for Silver

While some TNM Super League teams have decided to take a break following the league’s three-week suspension due to Covid-19 prevention guidelines, leaders Silver Strikers have intensified training.

The club yesterday announced that they would not break though there is uncertainty on when football will resume.

Silver lead the TNM Super League table with 19 points from nine games and chief executive officer  Thokozani Chimbali believes the training will help the Bankers maintain the momentum.

He said: “The team started on a very low note, losing to Civo United and then drawing against Wanderers away. In our third game, the team picked up and managed to beat Kamuzu Barracks with a wider margin.

Phodo is Silver’s top scorer with five goals

“We have played six away games and lost two, drew once and played three games at home and won all.

“Actually, this has been our best start in the last four years. In addition, the team has scored more goals in the first nine games ever. So, yes, the team is on the right track.”

The Bankers are the highest scoring team having netted 21 against seven, with an average of at least three goals per game.

Maxwell Phodo (five goals), Stain Dave (five goals) and Patrick Macheso (four goals) have formed lethal and ruthless attacking machinery for the Bankers.

Apart from Silver, Nyasa Big Bullets are also training despite the break.

But financially struggling Be Forward Wanderers suspended training soon after Sulom announced the break due to financial problems.

The Nomads captain Alfred Manyozo said they agreed to take a break to help the club avoid accumulating unpaid training allowances.

The captain, however, fears that the break would make matters worse for the Blantyre-based giants who have seven points from seven games.
