No-show at Raiders’ album pre-launch

After almost six months of no stage performance, Prince Martin and the rejuvenated Soul Raiders cancelled their highly anticipated prelaunch of their Angels (in Disguise) album at Hotel African in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The band, founded at Chancellor College in 2000, was supposed to reappear at 4pm and about 100 people flocked to the venue only to be greeted by the no-show.

Around 3pm, over 50 patrons were already at the hotel gates and others who were in their cars could not depart without checking with the reggae group first.

In an interview, Martin said the postponement was due to some changes at the hotel which he described as beyond the band’s control.

“I arrived at the hotel around 4pm and there was nothing I could do apart from apologising to our fans. Bear with us because Soul Raiders is here for them and we will serve them forever,” said Martin.

The hotel’s operations director Nkushi Unyolo said they could not go ahead with the show because most issues were unsorted.

“The show was postponed due to some logistics at the hotel and other issues. We agreed to postpone it as it would not make the expected impact,” said Unyolo.

Both of them indicated the show has been rescheduled to Saturday.

The 12-track album—containing Patse, Frustration and Sunaone— will be launched next month.
