One Malawian stands a chance of featuring in Nollywood movies, starring Ghanaian actress, Jackie Appiah, courtesy of Manowood Limited, an entertainment company opening a cinema in Lilongwe this month.

As Manowood Limited opens its M Cinema on April 26 at Lilongwe City Supermarket Mall, Appiah will be joined by other stars Prince David Osei and Alex Usifo for the premier of their latest movie Off The Hook, which marks the official opening of the cinema.

“We have lined up two major activities to mark the official opening of M Cinema, this is apart from bringing the Nollywood actors and actresses. We will have a red carpet movie premiere, where TV reporters will interview the stars, while photographers shoot photos of the celebrities on the red carpet, before they go inside to watch the film. It will be quite a sight

“People coming for the premiere will also have a chance of posing for photos with the Nollywood stars. We will also show two other movies; Last Secret and Night of Judgement,” explained said events manager Kingsley Otiono.

“After the premiere, which is set to start around 2 pm, there will be a cocktail party at Crossroads Hotel where we will conduct a raffle draw.

All the people who will buy the cocktail tickets will automatically enter a draw, which will be conducted by Jackie to identify the person who will star in three movies with her. Apart from the movie role, this person will travel with her to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania for movie premieres and roles,” explained Otiono.

M Cinema will conduct a film training for the winner and in the event that the winner does not want the prize, it is transferable.

Tickets for the premiere and cocktail party are being sold at M Cinema at Lilongwe City Supermarket Mall, Ecobank, Golden Peacock Hotel and Crossroads Hotel.

Football musical coming to Malawi

A fantasy football musical with all the passion, tragedies and triumphs of World Cup Football descends on Malawi this August.

Called Goalmouth, this is a large-scale community development project culminating in a spectacular sport, acting, song, dance and massed choir performance which will be performed by local communities in Dowa, Lilongwe and refugees at Dzaleka.

Two mythical teams the Lions and the All-stars are pitted against each other in a nail-biting, hard fought World Cup Final match.

Goal scoring heroes, a fallen angel, excited commentators and even a press photographer all get involved in the action.

This is a joint piece of art by refugees and Malawians. We want as many people to come for the performance. We will hold workshops to teach people 10 English Premier League songs.

“After the workshops, we will select people who have shown potential in the project which will be for free. These people need to act through the songs, react appropriately to the action on the songs. We will work with dance groups at Dzaleka refugee camp, local and international professional musicians,” explained Goalmouth co founder Jeremy Avis in an interview.

Some of the artists include Choreographer Vitu Kamanga, a Ballet dancer from England, local football commentator and one of Malawi’s top football coaches.

The project will involve about 350 people who will have one week of setting pieces together before the massive football party to celebrate the World Cup kick off.

“We will five rehearsals after people selected have memorised all the 10 songs that will be in CD given to them,” he explained.
