Nomads assure fans on players

Be Forward Wanderers have assured their supporters not to lose their sleep over reports about imminent departure of some key players.

Over the past couple of weeks, there have been reports linking some key players such as midfielder Joseph Kamwendo, Isaac Kaliati and Stanley Sanudi with possible moves to Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets.

Kamwendo: There is nothing like that

The Nomads general secretary Mike Butao said: “There are lots of rumours flying around about almost each team targeting our players. This is inevitable because we have been buying wisely and have assembled the best squad in the country, probably the best squad ever.”

He was reacting to his Silver counterpart Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda who hinted on the possibility of roping in a big name from the Lali Lubani Road outfit.

Added Butao: “Our supporters need to realise that we give each player a contract when he comes and the duration of the contract depends on many factors, including availability of funds at the time the contract is signed. After a while each contract will run down and will need renegotiating.”

Butao boasted that they have many players with solid contracts and others they are in discussion with about extending their contracts.

“Much as we value each one of our players highly and would want to keep each one of them, it is possible we might not reach a mutually agreed conclusion with some of them and they might opt to either play without a contract or leave altogether.

“The supporters should not panic. We promise to maintain a very competitive squad which will fight for honours on all fronts with the league as a priority as this is the year we want to participate in one of the CAF tournaments.”

Butao said they are in the process of building a dream team “and in another year the team will be miles ahead of any team in the country in every aspect. For any player contemplating leaving Wanderers we want to make the departure a loss for him and not the club.

“We would not want to lose any of our key players though. They have contributed so much already and some of these players will forever be key members of the club in different capacities even after they stop playing.  We would want each of our current players to be a part of this amazing journey.”

However, in an interview yesterday Kamwendo dismissed the rumour, saying: “There is nothing like that.” While Sanudi and Kaliati could not be reached.
