Mighty Wanderers general secretary David Kanyenda and his Big Bullets counterpart Higger Mkandawire have said they cannot be intimidated by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) management.

The development comes in the wake of FAM’s move to summon the duo to a disciplinary hearing for its outbursts in the press.

Charged Kanyenda: “They have made fatal and terrible decisions through and through. Now they want to deflect the attention by putting me and Higger on the spotlight.

“They hired Saintfiet unprocedurally and, as a result, he [Saintfiet] is making funny decisions. They want to victimise us for stating the obvious. Akufuna tonse tizingowomba m’manja [they want us to be hero-worshipping] even when things are wrong? A big no!”

Kanyenda also said he was surprised that FAM first raised the issue with the media, saying: “If they want me, they know where to find me. Why should they communicate to me through the media?

Mkandawire said he was not amused at FAM’s move.

“I still stand by what I said that these people at FAM lack seriousness. They should realise that they are running a national football association and they are not immune to criticism,” said Mkandawire.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda last week said the two would be summoned to a disciplinary hearing over their remarks on some decisions the association made.

He was referring to Mkandawire’s statement that the association’s management, in particular Nyirenda himself, competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka and administration officer Casper Jangale’s had terribly lost their way and that their conduct was unprofessional.

Kanyenda described Flames coach Saintfiet as a Nigerian plant following his decision to drop captain Joseph Kamwendo.

Nyirenda could not be reached for his comment on Tuesday.

  1. For how long are we going to allow clowns to mismanage Malawi’s game? Why do we allow these so-called administrators to make these clownish comments?
