Nomads bow to fans’ demands

Mighty Wanderers have bowed to their supporters’ demand to hold elections in all the four regions on Sunday April 7.

The news follows a meeting that was chaired by the club’s chairperson George Chamangwana and was attended by representatives from all the regional supporters’ committees—South, Eastern, Central and North.

The meeting that was coordinated by general secretary David Kanyenda, who doubles as the club’s legal adviser, also agreed to change the system of recognising the Southern Region committee as the main supporters’ body.

All along, the tradition has been that being the team’s base, the Southern Region committee was regarded as the main committee.

Instead, the meeting agreed that from now onwards, the club’s national supporters committee will be elected by its four regional committees to ensure that it wears a national face.

Kanyenda described the meeting as fruitful.

“There were no disputes, everything went on amicably and we are happy that in the end, we agreed on one thing as members of one family,” said Kanyenda.

He also said those aspiring for positions will be required to pay K20 000 each which will go towards the club’s operations.

“It has also been agreed that the next two weeks are for campaigning and supporters are free to start nominations with effect from today.

“Nominations can be made through my office or the club secretariat and, on Wednesday, we shall have a preparatory meeting for the elections,” said Kanyenda.

The team’s Central Region Supporters Committee chairperson Erec Nkhoma expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting.

“I am particularly impressed that the national supporters committee will have to be put in place by all the regional committees to ensure that it wears a national face.

“We are thankful to the executive committee, in particular the chairman Mr. Chamangwana for arranging such a fruitful meeting,” said Nkhoma who only last week announced that his entire committee had stepped down only to change their mind following consultations with the executive.
