FAM has said Mighty Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira faces a K100 000 fine for refusing to grant post-match interviews to the media after Saturday’s Airtel Top 8 Blantyre derby against Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.

The Nomads gaffer refused to attend the session after being approached by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director Gomezgani Zakazaka.

Refused to attend post-match interviews: Mpinganjira

In an interview yesterday, Zakazaka said: “He [Mpinganjira] bluntly refused to attend the post-match interviews and did not give reasons for his position.

“This is in contrast with rules and regulations governing the competition and he faces sanctions.”

Zakazaka also said it was unfortunate for a national team assistant coach to behave in the manner he did.

Article 22.19 of the Airtel Top 8 Rules and Regulations states that failure by head coach or assistant coach to grant post-match interviews is liable to a fine of K100 000.

Mpinganjira was not available for comment yesterday while his assistant Albert Mpinganjira, who is his young brother said only the head coach is allowed to speak to the media.

The Nomads suffered a 4-1 humiliation at the hands of their age-old rivals.

Nigerian lanky forward Babatunde Adepoju, a former Nomad, scored all the goals for the People’s Team while Vincent Nyangulu netted the consolation goal for the Lali Lubani Road outfit.

Bullets will face winners between capital city rivals Silver Strikers and Civil Service (Civo) United who clash this Saturday in the second semi-final.
