Be Forward Wanderers say they have started negotiating for a relief package from their outgoing sponsor Be Forward Limited.

The Nomads are set to part ways with the Japanese used motor vehicle dealer tomorrow, ending a five-year romance.

In an interview, Wanderers chairperson Symon Sikwese said the team requires “a transitional package to keep it afloat as they hunt for new sponsors”.

He said: “Yes, I can confirm that discussions are underway and we are hoping that things will work out, otherwise it will be tough.”

Be Forward Limited Malawi sponsorship coordinator Mike Butao also confirmed that the discussions are in progress.

“The discussions are currently underway, but I am not at liberty to say more.

“I am hoping that sometime within the week, a determination will be made,” he said.

Although there was still a year remaining on the contract, Sikwese said they would not make a fuss of it “because there was a provision of contract termination in the contract in case of disasters like Covid-19”.

He also said the club will revert to its traditional name of Mighty Wanderers once the sponsorship termination process is finalised.

Be Forward were sponsoring the Nomads to the tune of $200 000 (about K155 million) annually.

Recently, the Lali Lubani Road outfit launched an ambitious fundraising drive targeting K100 million a month dubbed Noma Yanga, Noma Yathu.

However, Sikwese said the initiative is not meeting the expectations.
